In April 2005 Blue Mountains Swamps were listed as Ecological Endangered Community under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Act 1999. This action started many projects delivered by Council. These included Swampcare (2006) and the Save our Swamps projects from 2006-2012.

This listing resulted from a nomination by the Blue Mountains Conservation Society and then an intense years of work providing more information and ensuring the application didn’t just get ‘forgotten’. After another 2 years of effort the Society succeeded in get changes to State legislation to allow for the listing to also occur (2007).
